May our dear friend Joe Cosgrave Rest in Peace

Ballinteer St Johns are deeply saddened to share the news that we have lost another very dear friend, Joe Cosgrave.  Joe was a truly loyal friend and long time supporter of Ballinteer St Johns, going right back to when our club began.  Joe together with his family business, Cosgrave Developments, were our Club Sponsor for many years.

Joe and our wonderful Kieran Brennan became great friends and it was through this friendship and loyalty that Joe became a true and loyal friend of Ballinteer St Johns.   It was a friendship that flourished through the years and right from the beginning Joe wanted to help our Club.  Our first Clubhouse, Arás na nÓg in Broadford, was built with materials from Cosgrave sites.

It was only last November that we welcomed Joe back to our Clubhouse.  It was a really special evening and with the sad news of Joe’s passing, as we reflect on that gathering, it is even more special and very poignant.

It was an evening where we were all so full of hope and positivity as we looked forward to 2022.   It was an evening where Joe and all those he became friends with over the years had the chance to catch up, reminisce and tell stories of the good old days!  And Joe was a great story teller!  It was very clear from the banter, smiles and laughter that evening, that amongst all the hard work there were so many good times and so much fun was had through the years, great memories to cherish.  It was an evening where Joe had the opportunity to meet players from across all our codes and to see how bright the future bodes for Ballinteer St Johns.  It was an evening where all those present who weren’t around or were too young to remember, got to know Joe and had the opportunity to hear about how Ballinteer St Johns achieved so much through the years with the help & support of Joe and his family.

We truly are heartbroken that Joe won’t be around to see how we move forward as a club.  All those who knew him through the decades and all those who had the pleasure to meet him will have lovely and lasting memories of Joe.  We have so much to thank Joe for.  He will always be remembered at Ballinteer St Johns for his friendship, loyalty, generosity and support.

We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Joe’s wife Denise, daughters Kate and Laura, his brothers Mick and Willie, sisters Helen and Patricia and all his family and friends.

May Joe Rest in Peace.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
